This is the first time in HEBS’ history that we have had an actual freshmen week. This is also the first year that we have tutors for our new students.
The reason why we wanted to bring the Freshmen week into EBS Helsinki campus, was the fact that our students do not see each other as much as in day studies due to our module studies. Because Hebsters do not meet as often, we thought that it would be important to make strong connections right in the beginning of the studies, in the form of the freshmen week.
On August 30th, the freshmen arrived to our Helsinki campus for the info night.
They received important general information about the school and the upcoming studies in HEBS.
Our HEBS Student Council was also introduced and in the end of the evening freshmen were divided into smaller tutor groups where they could bond with each other easier. The tutors toured their own groups around the campus and gave some tips regarding the student life.
On the next day, it was time for some introductory games and getting to know your fellow students. We met at our campus and each tutor took their own group and we began to get to know each other. After some awesome games that the tutors had come up with, it was time to end the night with a party and the whole group headed downtown to sing karaoke (of course). To seal the weekend, we had a delicious Freshmen Brunch in Faro on Sunday.
After the fun weekend of making new friends, it was time to get down to business and for the freshmen to have their first lectures. Everyone seemed to be pretty excited about the classes and eager to learn new things. The first week of university might feel a bit overwhelming because of all the new information, so Hebs tutors decided to throw a party to finish it.
Hebs sunnarit (party on a Sunday) was a great success. The party took place in Erottajan kasino, right in downtown of Helsinki. It was great to see that everyone had already made friends and were talking to each other like old friends.
Our freshmen week culminated in Hebsiäiset which was a race with different kind of tasks that they had to perform in order to become true Hebsters. The event took place outdoors and the weather was not on our side but it made no difference for the freshmen who completed the race with a Hebster-like attitude.
After the race everyone headed to the afterparty which took place in a new nightclub in Helsinki called Holvi.
It is safe to say that the Freshmen week and HEBS tutors reached their goals and that next year we are going to do everything even better and bigger than before!
