After 8 successful years of operations in 1000+ universities in 100+ countries, Hult Prize is coming to the land of technology and startups.
Hult Prize at EBS serves as the quarter-final round of the annual US$1,000,000 Hult Prize challenge. It gives the winning team the chance to bypass the general application round and fast-track into one of the 15 Regional Rounds! One startup will be chosen from EBS to not only represent the university itself but also the entire country at one of the Regional Rounds. Top Regional winners will be invited to an 8-week summer accelerator in the Hult castle in the UK which will give them access to the top tier founders, executives and investors in the region and conduct the market research in the different regions. The curriculum set for the startups in the accelerator will not only allow you to expand your startup knowledge in different fields but further gives you an opportunity to do a market research about your idea in the area or region of your choice.
6 Successful startups will be chosen from this round to present their idea in the Global Finals at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in September 2018 in front of the global leaders such as Bill Clinton himself who announces the Hult Prize global winner each year. Hult Prize is the official kick-off event at UN Global Weeks which makes it a perfect opportunity for young entrepreneurs to pitch for a million dollars. Hult Prize unlocks the desire of young people to change the world through business.
It offers you a chance to address a social cause and to create a for-profit business.
Deadline to register for Hult Prize is 17th November!
The winner of Hult Prize Global Rounds 2017 is ‘Roshni Rides’ that is comprised of a team of Pakistani students from Rutgers’ University in the USA. I got in touch with Najeeha Farooqi, CEO Roshni Rides to get more insight on her journey with the Hult Prize and how it all started.
This is what she had to say:
“We started from scratch… we didn’t even have a business idea when we first registered for the Hult Prize. But over the course of several months we began to develop a business from idea to conception. Over the course of several rounds of competition we learned from our mentors and peers and tried to get as much feedback as possible, always being ready to adapt. We developed a concept for our campus prize that was changed and further developed over the course of competition rounds. When we reached the global finals we had been able to pilot for 2 months, pivot from our regional idea, and be in a position to execute a business plan with investment money.
What you see now, is a transportation network solution that provides accessible, reliable and affordable public transportation for informal settlements in South Asia that we call “Roshni Rides”. For all the people applying this year, the only advice I have is to think outside of the box. As an entrepreneur it’s your job to figure out a creative and innovative solution, using the resources you have.”
Last year, the final teams were from Harvard University, Rutgers University, University of Waterloo, Instituto Technológico Autónomo de Mexico, University of Calgary and York University.
EBS could definitely make it to that list this year. What are you waiting for?
